My Journey

About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I work with children (ages 6 and up), teenagers and adults. My specialties include anxiety, phobias, depression, parenting skills, family therapy and ADHD. I have worked as an LPC for 8 years in private practice and was a school counselor in the Fayette County School system for many years. I understand how the school system works and the pressures that our children face on a daily basis. If needed, I am able to work with the school system to help your child reach his/her full potential.

What I Do

Our Services

Individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

For kids (ages 6 and up), teenagers and adults.

I have used cognitive behavioral therapy with clients for many years. This form of therapy is very effective for those who suffer from anxiety and depression. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based upon the idea that how you think determines how you feel and how you behave. CBT teaches you how to get rid of the never-ending negative thought cycle and helps you to learn to see events in a more positive way.

Group Therapy for Teenagers 14-18

To learn Life Skills such as:

  • Creating a budget and sticking to it
  • How to write a resume and get the job
  • Basic car maintenance
  • Banking information
  • How to read a contract and understand the “fine print.”
  • Dealing with “sticky social situations”
  • Understanding Georgia law

If you have a teen that you feel could benefit from this group, please call or email me and I can make sure that they are included in the next group. These groups are typically held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 to 4:00

Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy

This is a scientifically proven therapy that helps individuals overcome anxiety and phobias by being virtually exposed to situations that cause intense fear. It is done in the safe environment of the office. Many phobias such as fear of flying, fear of heights, fear of needles, fear of spiders, fear of germs, etc. can be helped with VRET. It is also effective in treating school anxiety, test anxiety and social anxiety.

Coordination of Care

Between my office and your child’s school. I am familiar with how the public school system works in the area and am able to help you navigate the best experience for your child.

I am a firm believer that the most effective treatment for my client is when the family, the school, the client, and any other medical personnel that are involved, work together to help the client reach his/her potential. However, I do realize that there are situations where this is counter-indicated. Therefore, I will never contact others without your permission. If you do request coordination of care, I promise to do my best to reach out to those that are involved in your care so that we can all work together.

I do not do medication management, but I do work closely with several doctors, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in the area. I can give you referrals as needed.

Telemental Health

I am certified in telemental health. I offer this service to those who are unable to come to my office or those who would just prefer to use this service. The cost is the same and most insurance companies do cover this form of treatment.

Common Answers

FAQ’s

What days and hours are you open?
I am available Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. My 4:00 and 5:00 appointments fill up quickly with children and teens who do not want to miss school and also with adults who do not want to miss work. Because of the difficulty of getting a 4:00 or 5:00 appointment, I also am open 2 Saturdays a month from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
How often will I need to come to counseling?
The frequency of appointments is determined for each client individually. This can vary from once a week, twice a week, once every 2 weeks or once a month. We decide that together. However, if you are receiving Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy, keep in mind that it is more effective when it is done frequently.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
One of the most important aspects of therapy is finding a therapist that you feel a connection with and whom you trust. Sometimes, through no fault of the therapist nor the client, that connection is just not there. When that happens, it is in both of our best interests to discontinue the relationship. If this happens to you, I can refer you to other therapists that might be a better fit for you.
How long will my counseling appointment last?
1 hour
What if I miss an appointment?
I request that you cancel no later than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. I usually have clients on a waiting list that would be able to take your appointment. If you cancel after the 24 hour window or if you do not show up for your appointment, there is a $100 fee. That being said, I do understand that sometimes, things happen without a 24 hour warning. If you are an established patient, I will waive that fee 2 times if you reschedule your appointment.
Do you do medication management?
No, I do not do medication management, however, if you are in need of medication, I can refer you to some local doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
